Implementation
of the
We Build People Model

We Build People is not a program to be followed, but a philosophy to be embraced. In the implementation process, you will lead people to think about the mission of Christ, the purpose of the Church, and how your church can become more intentional in building people. This philosophy will increase your church's effectiveness because people in your church will become purpose driven: the purpose of intentionally building others for Christ.

As a pastor or ministry leader, implementation of We Build People involves taking your workers through a four stage self-evaluation process necessary to develop a customized plan to build people in your local setting.

This implementation process with detailed instructions and worksheets are available in the We Build People Pastor's Kit. Here is an outline of that process.

STAGE 1 - Identify the mission/purpose and vision of the church.

The leadership of the church will gain a more accurate understanding of the purpose of Christ for the Church and a greater conviction to become a people-building church. A mission statement and vision slogan will be developed that will guide and motivate church attendees to build people. This will be accomplished through the following steps:

  1. Personally study what the Bible says about the Church and its mission/purpose.
  2. Involve leadership in identifying the Church's mission/purpose.
  3. Refine the mission/purpose statement and vision slogan for your church.
  4. Communicate the mission/purposes of your church in a variety of ways.
  5. Provide opportunities for commitment to the church's purposes.

STAGE 2 - Lead the church to understand and embrace the strategies and values in the We Build People philosophy.

The church will come to understand the strategies and values of the purpose-driven church identified in the We Build People philosophy. Understanding the core values will provide the foundation essential to accomplish the mission of Christ in the local church. Individuals will discover how the local church can build people into devoted followers of Christ. Finally, several strategies for communicating the vision to the church are presented. This will be accomplished through the following steps:

  1. Involve leadership in understanding and embracing the Diamond of Spiritual Growth, core values, and Circles of Commitment that form the heart of the We Build People philosophy.
  2. Lead the church in understanding how a church builds people.
  3. Communicate the strategies and values of the purpose driven church in multiple ongoing ways.

STAGE 3 - Identify your present ministries.

Individuals will gain a greater understanding of the five primary functions or purposes of an effective church: evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and worship. You will evaluate each of these in your local church and determine which areas need to be strengthened. This will be accomplished through the following steps:

  1. Identify all of the ministry programs of your church and the group(s) to which they primarily minister.
  2. Identify your spiritual development ministries.
  3. Identify the various commitment levels of your church people.
  4. Identify major events/activities you can develop to move people through the circles of commitment.

STAGE 4 - Begin to "build people" on purpose.

Leadership will become committed to design church ministries to intentionally build people. Each ministry will be listed, identifying its purpose and the specific group of people it is designed to develop. Strategies will be developed to move individuals in the church's sphere of ministry through the five levels (circles) of commitment. Finally a unique ministry, program, or strategy will be developed to strengthen each base (stage of spiritual development) in the We Build People model. This will be accomplished through the following steps:

  1. Identify the three to five ministries/programs you will use to help people in your congregation reach each base (stage of spiritual development).
  2. Identify the primary ministry that you will use to help people reach each base.
  3. Place the bases in order of current level of effectiveness in moving people to spiritual development.
  4. Develop ministries for the base that has the greatest need of strengthening.
  5. Select resources that will help you accomplish your ministry priorities.
