To the extent that a church develops its most appreciable
asset, people, it will succeed at accomplishing its part in the Great
Commission.
The Law of Involvement says:
A disciple-making church provides a process that intentionally involves
disciples in identifying and developing their unique God-given gifts,
abilities, and resources.
Base Three Value:
Every believer has unique
gifts to be developed and used to strengthen the church.
Base Three Principles:
- Obedience is the essence of discipleship and the highest form of worship.
John 14:23
- Responsibility for equipping the believer is vested in the Church.
Ephesians 4:11- 13
- Biblical leadership requires servanthood and godly character, as well
as, ministry skills. Mark 10:42-44
Base Three Habits:
Four habits characterize the church committed to involve people and
to act on its convictions. (This outline is developed in theWe Build
People Training Book.)
- Identify Ministry Gifts
The habit of identifying ministry gifts is strengthened by accepting
the theology of gifts and ministry, evaluating the ministry climate
in your church or class, determining ministry needs in the church, and
helping people discover their place in ministry.
- Establish Ministry Apprenticeship
The habit of establishing ministry apprenticeship is strengthened
by understanding the nature of apprenticeship training, the process
of leadership development, and how to establish a ministry apprenticeship
strategy.
- Provide Leadership Training
The habit of providing leadership training is best developed by
understanding the principles, processes, and practices of leadership
training.
- Model Servant Character
To model servant character requires that leaders know the qualities
of servant-leaders, possess servant character, and be able to distinguish
the difference between God's way and man's way of leadership.
Goals of Disciples Committed to Ministry
A church that is practicing the Law of Involvement will result in believers
making a commitment to ministry. At Base 3 true disciples should reflect
the following growth in their awareness, attitudes, and actions.
Awareness Goals - they:
- recognize that love of God requires service to others;
- know that greatness is measured by servanthood;
- know the church cannot function without the participation of each
believer;
- know that each believer has been gifted for service;
- know that Christian service is done more effectively through united
rather than individual efforts.
Attitude Goals - attitudes that
- desire to serve Christ by involvement in ministry opportunities;
- exhibit a spirit of humility and teachability in the service of others;
- desire to love God by serving others;
- recognize accountability as stewards;
- appreciate the opportunities of service the local church provides.
Action Goals - they take action and
- identify their spiritual gifts for ministry;
- develop gifts through guided ministry;
- seek to serve the church after the pattern of Christ;
- model godly character that influences others toward Christian maturity;
- contribute time, talent, and material possessions to the ministry
efforts of the local church.
