Paul's letter to the Ephesian church established criteria for
a Christian influence in this world. The standards apply to individual
Christians and to the church as a body. In Ephesians 4 there are touchstones
against which the church is to measure its ministry. We might call this
passage, "God's Final Exam for the Church."
As ministers to God's people, we must ask ourselves these probing and
sometimes uncomfortable questions...
- What of eternal significance happens in the life of a person
while in the care of your church? (Ephesians 4:11)
- What percentage of your members are involved in ministry?
(Ephesians 4:12)
- Do your members' ministries result in the spiritual growth
of faith, knowledge, and maturity? (Ephesians 4:13)
- Do the lifestyles of your members reflect the principles and
character of Christ? (Ephesians 4:13)
- What percentage of your members are easily shaken in their
faith and vulnerable to deceitful schemes? (Ephesians 4:14)
- Do your members mutually edify and build up one another? (Ephesians
4:16)
- Is there spiritual and numerical growth in your church? (Ephesians
4:15)

It is not enough to win converts; we must build disciples
whose spiritual gifts are developed and dedicated to carrying out the
Great Commission.
If we do not build people, we will fail the examination.
